Chapter 19 Jobless Days
So I surrendered my businesses with much debts incurred behind me.With no job in hand I left for Bentong ,Pahang .There was nothing I could have done than but my wife thought that we could temporary survived there as her family members were there.
With no where to go I just had to follow that advice.I did some odd jobs around while my wife went on to help her mother's rubber holding - tapping rubber. No choice that was the way out.At least we were surviving on that merger income.
Our children attended secondary schools there.Everything settled nicely although we were poor.We had been poor before so a repetition does harm us and we prevailed despite all odds against us.Most important was that our family was still intact.
Times were hard and the struggle for survivor difficult but true grit and biting of our teeth we managed. Just imagine I was never a manual worker yet when time came for me to strive hard I did pulled through.Tapping was nothing new to my dear wife for she had been helping her parents since a kid.
It was alright to work manually for survival. We were always grateful to the relatives who stood by us in time of need but many such things came along with much tears shaded.Maybe they be right for most had their faces to save.
Our presence there could had caused them to lose face. For there was a sad incidence whereby we were almost cast out or chased way because we could had been degrading them in their home town. They demanded that we leave them alone and survived else where on our own.
I admit there were sad moments in my life and I remembered well what transpired. However after that we were allowed to be there. But the good Lord above knew my plight because not long thereafter my application to a plantation had a reply.
I was requested to attend an interview with them.I met them at their head office for the interview at the appointed date for the position of plantation manager. The Boss was impressed with me and offered me the position.
I was elated at that, however due to some minor misunderstanding I reported for duty two months later. What ever it was I got that job.The job made my whole family extremely happy.Although the salary offered was rather low I nevertheless joined them. - beggar are no chooser.
At least I now had a place to go to.
