Fabian and Francis were born in Teluk Anson and lived in an attap house along Anson Road.It was a wooden house whose cement flooring were raised about two feet from normal ground, thus the house cannot be flooded.
The house is situated just opposite the District General Hospital and about two hundred meters away their heritage the famous Teluk Anson Clock Tower. It was about five hundred from the Perak River.
It was subjected to constant flooding especially during rainy seasons and when the tide of the river was high.During flooding Fabian and Francis used to watch little tiny greenish worms swimming in the murky flood water.Their cement flooring was two feet above ground level where flood water can reached them.So they simply laid in front of their way and watch the little worms.
The front of their house was a fence of a row of red hibiscus which flowered all the time, the whole year round. There was a big drain just in front of the row of Hibiscus, quite deep and well cemented. Many a times Fabian as a small boy had fallen into it and got hurt.
There were also two mango trees in front of their house. Both tree were infested with big red ants which can bite people. Both brothers never dared go near to them for fear of being bitten by those dreadful red ants.
At the back of their house were a number of old coconut palms. All of them very tall. The empty ground of the house were planted with some vegetables, sugar cane and sweet potatoes.Oh,the toilet was about three chains from the back of the house and it was raised to more that three feet. Thus flood water cannot reach it.
Actually they lived there with their parents and their elder sister.Their grandmother too resided with them.
