Chapter 8 An Auntie's Marriage

When Fabian was about six years old their mother's sister got married to a Hospital Assistant from the nearby General Hospital.Francis was four then.It was a very simple marriage at their house.

Only near relatives were invited to witness the marriage as well as for a dinner.First there were prayers with chicken, pork and fruits. Then came the tea ceremony whereby the elders were served with tea and in returned received an "ang pow"(red packets)' each, following the younger people to receive their "ang pow".

There were about ten small children around and the Auntie ordered all to line up in one single ling."Fabian, you being older boy come in front first".
'No.no"retorted Fabian's sister,"cousin sister Mei should be first,second me",said Fabian's sister,"then only comes Fabian".
"Okay",said the Auntie,"Fabian you go behind them".
"But where my ang pow?"
"Afterward you will get your ang pow".

So every kid got their red packet and were instructed not to open the red packet until dinner were served. That evening the dinner was very lavish as there was chicken, pork on the table as well as other varieties of food.

After dinner all the kids gathered around to check their red packet.Wah,everyone got forty cents each a lot of money to kids then can buy sweets, cakes or at least two bowls of curry mee.Anyway they had some pocket money.

The newly wed stayed in their own house,a government provided quarter also along Anson Road.
