Chapter 10 Salted Pear Stall

The Clog maker rented a shop lot in Town whereby he can worked and trade his clogs on the spot without having to move anything. Thus saving some time and hard work.

However within a short period another man rented that space and another space room for his immediate family.Staying with him was his wife and two very small daughters.Tagging along was also his brother.

This man was a Hawker plying his foodstuffs from a push cart.So the clog maker place was to stall his push cart, and his brother sleep in that place too.During the evening the man and his brother will pushed the cart to the Great World Park to sell his foodstuffs. They called it a day usually after twelve midnight.

The Great World Park was the only place of entertainments in town then.It offers a host of activities ranging from film show (non talking Black and white),in operation was also a cabaret where people can go dancing, and a variety of stall offering little gambling.Occasionally Cantonese Opera will also performed on stage there.

In the morning both brothers will be around preparing their food stuffs for sale.Their main trade was making of salted pear water.Salted small shalots and other salted food stuffs from China. In addition they also sold fruits.

Fabian and Francis called him "Ah Loy Sook"and his brother "Ng Sook".Why they do not know, for they were to call them those names. His daughters were too small to play with Fabian and Francis.

Because Fabian attended "English" school,Ah Loy Sook wnenever he sees the boys he will wished them"Good Morning,Fatt Di Fou Pui Come Di Mou See".And the boys will laughed away happily.

Fabian does not understand what he said but understand that it was his interpretation of English as it was spoken.

During the arrivals of the Operas in Teluk Anson,on most occasions they went with their grandmother they always buy fruits, drinks and tit bits from Ah Loy Sook's stall in the Park.He was very generous and many a time gave the brothers a treat but their grandmother insisted on payments.Anyway what were good tenents be,just some smll treats.

His brother presence at the stall every evening caught the attention pf a film dictor who offered a part his film as a Japanese General. What a pleasant surprised for him, really.Without hesitation he accepted that role, very unfortunate only for one film with nom other offerings, otherwise he could be famous.
