Chapter 24 Fishing for ells

Fishing in the nearby river?No way their parents would not allow that,that for sure,it much too dangerous.At that time Fabian and Francis do not know how to swim.

Fishing in the river was out of bound but there was another way they can fished.Bruce taught them how to fish ells.By the side of their land was a drain and by the side of this drain were small holes where the ells dwelt.

Actually it was very simple to fish them.All one need was a fishing hook with a short length of string.For bait an earth worm attached to it will do.Plaace the hook with bait into the small hole by the drain.Lured the ell in the hole to attack the hook by moving,pulling and then putting in again.

Should the ell be in that hole the water will moved as the ell inside moved.The ell was by nature a greedy feeder will attacked the worm in the hook.Once it attacked there was no escape as it would have tried to swallow the hook.Thus it will be captured.

The ell will not come out of the hole and will had to be pulled out.Ells caught were quite big those days.Shaped just like a snake but with very slippery body for there were slimy creature and can easily slipped away from the hands.

Initially Fabian kept them in a small tin but later kept them in a hole in the ground.Come night fall all the ells escaped.Because of its snaky appearance Fabian dared not ask his mother to cook them.

As kids both Fabian and Francis enjoyed themselves that way.Kids were kids alway on he look out for something to play with.
